Hotaru (Japanese firefly) - ほ た る
The firefly is famous in Japan for its seasonal emergence.
They appear in May or June, just after the flowering of Japanese cherry trees. The appearance of the firefly announces the arrival of summer.
Many poems and songs have been written about the hotaru, there is even an anime called "Tomb of the Fireflies".
Every summer, Japanese children go on a firefly hunt. Many festivals are organized all over the country to observe them.
