Kabutomushi - カ ブ ト ム シ
The Japanese rhinoceros beetle or kabutomushi, is a very popular insect in Japan, thanks to its image of a fighter and its resemblance to samurai helmets.
Young Japanese like to own this insect, which is quite easy to breed and resistant.
They are summer insects. They only live 4 months to adulthood and then die around September / October.
Males are much larger, reaching a length of 4 to 8cm. They have a Y-shaped horn that they use to fight, they can even throw their opponent into the air.
It is a nocturnal insect that feeds particularly on fruits but also on tree sap, and anything sweet. He spends most of his life underground.
