Intai (end of career) - 引退
The end of a rikishi's career (called intai) is a major event.
The ceremony that accompanies the rikishi to the exit is called "danpatsu shiki" and lasts several hours.
It is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of his career, but also to attend the cut of his chon-mage (traditional bun inherited from the time of the samurai) or ôichô-mage (bun in the shape of a leaf. ginkgo, intended for senior officers).
The rikishi receives farewell gifts, his colleagues participate in parades, then sumo fights are presented.
A few rikishi sing, and the day concludes with the bow-turning ceremony (yumitori shiki).
